Sachin Tendulkar begins political innings, swears in as Rajya Sabha MP
New Delhi: Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar began his political innings as he took oath as Rajya Sabha MP today.
On Monday, Sachin Tendulkar arrived at Parliament with his wife Anjali and sworn in as Rajya Sabha MP.
Tendulkar, who turned 39 recently took oath as member in the chamber of Chairman Hamid Ansari. After signing the papers, Sachin was presented a golden shawl, marking a beginning of his political career.
Notably, India's batting maestro Sachin became the first playing cricketer to be sworn in Rajya Sabha.
Notably, the iconic cricketer had reportedly asked the Rajya Sabha secretariat to arrange his oath-taking ceremony away from media attention. It was believed that Tendulkar may want to avoid any situation akin to the one after actor Rekha took oath.
Government had recommended Tendulkar's name along with Bollywood actress Rekha and businesswoman Anu Aga for the member of the Rajya Sabha. Though Rekha and Aga took oath in May, Sachin could not do so due to his IPL commitments.
