Rs 25,000 Fine For 5-Star That Billed Actor Rahul Bose Rs 442 For Bananas

:explode:these 5 star owners shud be slapped on their faces..

tea costs rs. 150 - 450 in such 5 star hotels....

Is it a diamond tea or what !! :damn:
Water itself costs 70 rupees in some 3 star hotels. Print price is just 20 rupees though. If you ask they say GST and hotel charges as if they are doing purification of it in between!!!

We can't do much except saying our grievance in social media and forums. Because the law is with them. Not only star hotels, even a local neighborhood hotel can charge you more than MRP and you cannot question them. According to a supreme court order hotels and restaurants not just sell but provide service. So the MRP act cannot control them. They can overcharge a product above the MRP adding their own service charges. Only the poor, innocent roadside vendors and petty shop owners will be strangled by the MRP overcharging act and levied heavy fine even if they charge 1₹ more than MRP.

  • Federation of Hotel & Restaurant Associations of India says unlike a retail store, a hotel offers service, quality, plate, cutlery, accompaniment etc.,
  • Association says that 18% GST levied by the hotel on Bose's bill was 'a legal requirement incumbent upon the hotel'
₹442 for two bananas very much justified: Hoteliers' association explains why
Yes, all the drama is only about the GST applied. But what about the base price? Hotels are free to charge any base price of any product they sell. Even if you order a Lays Chips packet worth Rs 10, they can (and they already do) charge Rs 100+ for it.

Actually, in my opinion:
1. You'd be bananas to order Fresh Fruits from a 5-star hotel and not expect a bomb in the bill.
2. If you're Rahul Bose, you would certainly order Fresh Fruits from a 5-star hotel, but then you shouldn't expect it to be priced at market rates.
3. The Bill mentions "Fruit Plate". This would certainly be available in the Menu card kept in the room. Probably Bose told them to give only two bananas out of the entire Fruit Plate. Most restaurants will not reduce the price of a dish, if you ask them to give only 20% of the dish.
4. Have a look at the menu card and then decide. Else, no harm in going out and buying them (Rahul Bose can wear a facemask).
