Today's Google Doodle which shows the search engine's name printed on a microchip is Google's way of commemorating the birth anniversary of Robert Noyce, the co-founder of Fairchild Semiconductor and Intel and inventor of the microchip.
Noyce was born in 1927 in the American state of Iowa and graduated from MIT in 1953. In 1968, he founded Intel with Gordon E. Moore and it was under him that Ted Hoff invented the microprocessor. During the course of his career, Noyce was granted 15 patents. Noyce died in 1990 from a heart attack.
In recent months, Google has created their trademark Doodles to celebrate the birth anniversaries of American artist Mary Blair and French artist and physicist, Louis-Jacques-Mandé Daguerre and to celebrate "Children's Day" in India (which is the birth anniversary of PM Jawaharlal Nehru).
