The year 2016 seems to be the year of burning phones, Samsung's Galaxy Note 7 burning issue hasn't cooled down yet and now a Reliance Jio's Lyf phone has been reported to have burst into flames.
A Twitter user, Tariq Sadiq, posted photos of a burned Lyf phone on the microblogging website. Sadiq said that the phone "exploded and burst into flames". The photos show a phone's rear panel, whatever remains of it,
branding is also visible. While the phone's model is not yet known, the company quickly responded to Sadiq's complaint and said that it is investigating the issue.
We reached out to the company and a spokesperson informed us that they "will conduct a through investigation in the matter.
"LYF range of phones are designed and manufactured with global standards by some of the world's leading manufacturers of mobile phones. Each phone goes through a stringent quality control process.
"We are concerned about the incident reported in social media and are taking the matter seriously. We are assessing the cause and will conduct a thorough investigation in the matter. Customer safety is paramount to us and, based on our findings, we will take appropriate action," a Lyf spokesperson told India Today Tech.
Burning and exploding phones have become a serious issue this year, especially after Samsung's flagship Galaxy Note 7 phones were reported to be catching fire across the globe. Samsung first started recalling the faulty phones and replacing them with "safe units".
However, more reports said that even the replaced phones were not safe and were catching fire for no apparent reason.
Samsung finally had to kill the phone and offered customers with options to either take a Galaxy S7 or S7 Edge phone or get full cashback on their Note 7 phones.
Earlier in September, Gizbot had also reported a similar incident. A user had reported that a Lyf Water 1 phone exploded in his hands while he was browsing Facebook. The phone was not plugged into a charger.
