NEW DELHI: ALTBalaji, the over-the-top video content provider on Thursday said that it has signed a deal with Reliance Jio to make available its original content on the Mukesh Ambani-led telco's digital platforms such as Jio Cinema and Jio TV. The announcement follows Jio's parent Reliance Industries Limited's acquisition of 24.9% stake in Balaji Telefilms, the parent of ALTBalaji, for Rs 413 crore.
ALTBalaji said that Jio’s established user base of over 160 million will help the OTT player to strengthen the distribution of its content. With over 11 million mobile app downloads and more than 2 million web viewers, ALTBalaji is available in over 90 countries and caters to the need of Indian consumers and Indian diaspora spread across the globe.
"This content would be enjoyed by all the subscribers of Reliance Jio, one of the leading telcos in India, as part of the Digital Services eco-system offered by Jio," an official statement said.
ALTBalaji is already working with Vodafone for the latter’s Vodafone Play platform in India, and is looking at similar tie-ups with Bharti Airtel for its Airtel TV application, ET previously reported.
“The early response to our content has been good and now we wish to be available in all environments where audiences exist and consume videos. We believe that our association with the Jio platforms will help us reach their consumers and let them enjoy the content we are proud to present. Our offerings have a very good fit with the Jio Digital Life eco-system," Nachiket Pantvaidya, Group COO and CEO of ALTBalaji said.
