Even as telecom users have been keenly waiting for 4G data prices to come down, in a bold move, Reliance Communication has gone ahead and offered 4G services to its CDMA users at an eye-popping tariff of Rs 93-97 (depending on circle) for 10GB.

That's not all, the plan also comes bundled with 1GB of 2G/3G data, 150 minutes of local/national calls and unlimited calls with the RCom network.

To avail of the plan, existing customers (both prepaid and postpaid) have to trade in their existing SIMs with 4G-compliant ones.

The move comes in the wake of RCom's decision in April to shut down the struggling CDMA business (it has stopped taking on new subscribers) and is likely a hook for users to upgrade to 4G before customers are offered to move to the company's GSM service, where it has already tied up with to-be-launched Reliance Jio to offer 4G plans.

"This indicates that RCom will shortly start roaming on Jio’s 4G network and is coming closer to shutting down its CDMA network. We estimate RCom will close its CDMA network in 2-3 months," Bank of America-Merrill Lynch said in a note.

"We also expect RCom to suspend this offering after CDMA subscriber migration (to GSM)," it said.
