The Bombay High Court has directed bike-taxi aggregator Rapido to suspend all its services in Maharashtra after the company failed to disclose material facts that it does not have license to operate and has been operating illegally.

The bike-taxi aggregator has agreed to shut all its services by 1 pm today. This includes 2-wheeler passenger service, 2-wheeler parcel service and auto service. The ban will be in place till January 20.

It's all due to the Autorickshaw and Taxi unions having political connections and the government playing vote-bank politics. The highcourt had clearly questioned the state government as to why it has not considered the potential of issuing bike taxi aggregator license yet, even though it is clearly a good alternative for regular cabs for solo travelers and would help reducing traffic and pollution.

Absolutely these auto wallah chaps vote en masse as directed by their union whereas the middle class fools only fight over twitter and on election day travel to a hill station to chill.

Autos will not agree to go by the meter and will demand higher price and return fares to take you to locations where buses don't go. They don't want you to have an alternative in the form of bike taxi so that they can continue to extort you.
And Maharashtra Chief Minister was an Autorickshaw driver himself so we all know who is going to win in this battle 😅

Even the Uber and Ola's have broken the thuggery of Auto Drivers to a large extent.Gone are the days when the Auto Drivers would drop you on main road if your home is little inside.

Ride-hailing platform Rapido expanded its services on Tuesday with the official launch of its taxi service in three cities – Delhi, Bengaluru and Hyderabad. The company aims to expand across India by the middle of next year, said co-founder Pavan Guntupalli.

Waiting for it to launch in Mumbai and offer much lower fares than Ola Uber due to its zero commission policy. That will help it grow market share.

Can you explain?
Ola and Uber charge a platform commission of 20-30% per ride from the driver partners which reduces their income and at times they ask you to cancel the ride on the app and pay them directly.
Rapido has a policy of not charging any commission per ride so that whatever you pay for the ride goes fully in the driver partners pocket thus increasing their profits and customers not being forced to take offline rides.
Rapido instead charges the driver partners a platform subscription fee (to support the technology backend involved in the ride aggregation and tracking) of Rs 500 after they have earned Rs 10000 through rides on the platform. This works out to just 5% which is hardly anything compared to the commission charged by Ola Uber.
