Fully agree with the OP

Good decision I support you. But don't surrender your connection just yet. Streaming sports on Sony Liv and Hotstar isn't fun. Neither app can handle streaming live sports properly.
For SonyLiv I agree, for hotstar the quality and usability I get is quite satisfactory even on Big screen. (I do use an AppleTV)

I used to pay 16K for a tatasky Platinum hd. After all this Trai fuss, I realised my mistake and switched to monthly 144 rate.. It's an in between situation, once all family members gets accustomed to streaming.. will definitely switch off DTH.

I 'm not paying more, as I do need high speed internet at home and I was anyways paying for some OTT premium services.

Time is more precious than Advert infested Tv contents. Simply do not understand why TV broadcasters needs so much money from viewers they are already earning quite a lump sum amount from the ads.

I have been using your option for the past 3 months. But the issue is that I didn't like the stream quality on Sony Liv until recently. There was a lot of pixelation during live events even with 50 Mbps speeds. If you are only interested in sports, I'd suggest you to stick with DTH and you'd most probably be able to build a pack with all sports channels under Rs. 350.

Digital Streaming have a caveat of good internet speed. All online apps requires atleast 5Mbps whereas there as some apps which requires 25Mbps. Not everyone have 100Mbps connectivity. I use both online as well traditional dth services. There are pros and cons for both of them. At the end of the day it depends what are you watching, even for normal users youtube is sufficient as it stream most of the popular programmes and large variety of movies for free and runs pretty good on decent speeed. So choices differs from individual to individuals. Go for the best that suits your needs. I suggest you to do a pilot test of using online services completely for a month or two without watching any content from regular dth/cable. Then make your mind whether its time for you to move on to digital or stick with dth/cable.
DTH, in any case, is cheaper than streaming services. If streaming service is opted for, one had to subscribe Zee5, Hotstar, Sony Liv, Voot, SunNXT etc to get live channels of ZEE, Star, Sony, Colors and Sun Networks. Subbscription charges for Amazon Prime Videos and Netflix are extra.
All these are worthy only if unlimited, uninterrupted internet service with good speed is available which itself cost you Rs.700-1000 depending on the city one lives in.

The worst decision of TRAI make me to think about why I have to spend such huge amount for useless Indian television channels, I have Chromecast and Firestick and Internet connection with 375 GB data with 100MBPS speed I think it's enough to not waste my money in TV channels and the most useless decision by TRAI. Finally good bye to my Airtel DTH connection.
Yes for news channels you can use youtube itself so no need to waste money. If needed all fta channels you will get in yupp tv app

And hotstar dont give live channel even if you are premium member its only available if you use jiotv, airteltv, tatasky tv app and that too only mobile or tab.

Correct for many channels.

I do get live news channels on Hotstar (No JioTV needed). For other channels, I do tend to watch my programs directly.. why watch with ads! Also several times I have seen the full program do get updated within 5-10 mins of the TV telecast start, so you get to see it earlier than on TV.

I disconnected my Dish with Hindi+Urdu channels and added VPN to connect to India and installed Hotstar, Zee5, Voot, Sony Liv and for Pakistani dramas I use YouTube with VPN (HUM TV blocks all videos in USA). I also bought Hotstar Premium (India) for 999/- yearly and Zee5 Premium for 499/- yearly as well as Sony Liv was on sale for 299/- yearly (Sent relative who resides in India money so that they can buy the account through their Paytm). I get all dramas, movies, reality shows at a extremely low rate and I think I have successfully been able to live without dish. So I think cord-cutting is a good option.
