An app launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday helps the citizen locate the nearest police stations wherever he or she is. Not just that, the Indian Police app provides the names of the police stations, the telephone numbers, the distance from the place where you are and how much time it will take to reach whichever police station one wants to go to. The app also prompts one to call any of the numbers listed with the ‘Tap to call’ facility.
The features of the app, as could be seen, after it is downloaded, are citizen-friendly. Getting through to the police should no longer be difficult. The app provides the police station number, the control room number and also the SP office number. However, no mobile phones numbers are provided. The app was developed by NIC.
Narendra Modi inaugurated the app during the conference of DGPs at the Sardar Vallabhbhai National Police Academy (SVPNPA).
According to a description provided for the app, the Indian Police at Your Call App is a GIS Map based interface for the citizens to locate police stations near to their current location so that they can easily “reach” the police station in case of emergency. The App displays the current location of the citizen on the Map along with details such as name of places, roads and major landmarks. The App dynamically fetches details of all the police stations near the location of the citizen and can be refreshed at regular intervals.
The Mobile App has been developed on Android and iOS platforms and is available for free download from Google Play Store and Apple App Store. Indian Police at Your Call App is a Digital India initiative aimed at the safety and security of the citizen anytime anywhere,” the description says.
