Maroof named Pakistan Women T20I captain


Bismah Maroof was named the Twenty20 International captain of Pakistan Women on Saturday (June 4) after Sana Mir relinquished the role following the World T20 in March. Mir will continue captaining the One-Day International side when the team travels to England in June for a limited-overs series.

Maroof was named Mir’s deputy in the ODIs while Javeria Khan, who had fractured her right thumb in the World T20, has recovered and been named vice-captain of the T20I team.

The 15-member squad included the uncapped Aiman Anwer, but had no place for Aliya Riaz and Diana Baig – both were part of the World T20 squad – while the likes of Ayesha Zafar, Rabiya Shah and Maham Tariq have been put on standby.

Pakistan last played an ODI in West Indies in October last year. There were six changes from that squad, with all of Maroof, Aiman, Nahida Khan, Muneeba Ali, Sadia Yousuf and Sidra Nawaz included.

They will play three ODIs and two T20Is in England, with the tour-opening ODI to be played in Leicester on June 20.
