Hafeez ton puts Pakistan in control
Mohammad Hafeez hit a career-best 143 as Pakistan strengthened their grip on the first Test against Bangladesh, reaching 295-3 at tea on the second day in Chittagong on Saturday.
The visitors, resuming on 132-0, had built a lead of 160 runs at the break after bowling out Bangladesh
for 135.
Younus Khan (25) was batting with Misbah-ul Haq (16) at the interval after Bangladesh finally managed to make some headway in the second session after a largely frustrating day and a half.
The hosts gave Misbah some anxious moments after Shahadat Hossain had Azhar Ali caught by Mushfiqur Rahim for 26, and Elias Sunny ended the composed innings of Hafeez lbw.
Pakistan captain Misbah survived a close lbw shout off Sunny before he opened his account, and was dropped by Shahriar Nafees off paceman Rubel Hossain at slip on nine.
Hafeez, who faced 237 balls and clubbed 14 boundaries, was unlucky to be dismissed though replays suggested the ball took a thin inside edge and hit him on the backfoot.
Resuming on 74, the right-hander completed his fourth test century and second against Bangladesh with a boundary off Mahmudullah, who gave Bangladesh their first breakthrough in the morning.
The off-spinner trapped overnight batsman Taufiq Umar lbw on 61, ending his 164-run opening stand with Hafeez.
