OnePlus 3T with Snapdragon 821 SoC, 6GB of RAM launched: Price, specifications, features

As expected, OnePlus has launched the OnePlus 3T. The smartphone, as the name suggests, is an incremental upgrade over the company’s flagship smartphone that was launched five months back. Prices for the OnePlus 3T start from $439 (approximately Rs 30,000). It is set to go on sale from November 22 in the US and Canada, with other markets to follow starting November 28. It will be offered in gun metal and soft gold color variants.

In line with the teasers, the OnePlus 3T looks exactly the same as the OnePlus 3 as far as the design is concerned. It begs the question as to why the company would want to alienate those who had bought the flagship device just five months back. Rather than the design, OnePlus has focused on making the changes under the hood. One of the biggest changes is the processor, which the company had confirmed in the run up to today’s event. In place of the Snapdragon 820 chipset on the OnePlus 3, the OnePlus 3T comes with a Snapdragon 821 chipset instead and it is clocked at 2.35GHz

The OnePlus 3T will be available in two storage variants – 64GB variant and 128GB variant, both featuring 6GB of RAM. The 64GB variant is priced at $439 (Rs 30,000 approximately), whereas the 128GB variant is priced at $479 (Rs 32,500 approximately). To put these prices into perspective, the OnePlus 3 was launched in India earlier this year with a price tag of Rs 27,999.

OnePlus 3T specifications

The OnePlus 3T’s specifications are in line with what have leaked before. So, in essence you get a device with a 5.5-inch full HD (1920×1080 pixels) Optic AMOLED display. The screen is protected by Corning’s Gorilla Glass 4.

On the photography front, the smartphone sports a 16-megapixel rear camera with Sony IMX398 image sensor, f/2.0 aperture, Phase Detection Auto-focus (PDAF), Optical Image Stabilization (OIS), and Electronic Image Stabilization (EIS), and 4K video recording capabilities. There is also a 16-megapixel fixed-focus selfie camera with f/2.0 aperture and 1080p video recording capabilities.

The device is backed by a slightly larger 3,400mAh battery with support for the company’s proprietary Dash Charge technology. There is also a fingerprint scanner embedded into the home button up front, and an Alert Slider on the side. Connectivity options include dual-SIM card slots, 4G LTE support, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, NFC and GPS. The OnePlus 3T runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow-based Oxygen OS, and will be updated to Android 7.0 Nougat later this year.

In comparison, the OnePlus 3 was launched with features like 5.5-inch 1080p Optic AMOLED display, Snapdragon 820 processor, 6GB of RAM, 16-megapixel rear camera, 8-megapixel selfie camera, 3,000mAh battery with Dash Charge support, and connectivity options like dual-SIM card slots, and 4G LTE support.
