Cashing in on the demonetisation drive, Ola has amped up its Ola Money service to enable utility bill payments via the app. Users across the country can now pay gas and electricity bills using the Ola Money app. It has partnered with big public utilities like Reliance Energy, Mahanagar Gas and Noida Power to enable this service. The service could previously be used to pay for food, entertainment, ticketing, travel, recharge, and shopping.

Ola has announced that Ola Money can be used to pay bills of 25 utilities across India. Some of the electric and gas public companies include BESCOM - Bengaluru, BSES Yamuna and Rajdhani - Delhi, Noida Power - Delhi, Indraprastha Gas - Delhi, MAHAVITARAN - Maharashtra, Mahanagar Gas - Mumbai, Reliance Energy - Mumbai, Rajasthan Vidhyut Vitran Nigam Ltd amongst others.

With the new RBI mandate, digital wallets recharge limit has been increased to Rs. 20,000 till December 30. This is done in view of promoting cashless transactions as a result of cash crunch due to demonetisation. By topping up the desired bill amount on the Ola Money app, and selecting the 'Bill Payment' option will throw the above mentioned utility providers. Users can then select their utility provider and instantly pay their utility bills through the app. Paytm and MobiKwik digital wallets already offer this service on their apps.

"Ola Money is making payments seamless beyond mobility, in a variety of use cases every single day. With over 500 merchants already accepting Ola Money across India, we are proud to add 25 leading utilities to this list. The Ola Money wallet is already the most-used payment choice for mobility and one of the top three wallets in the country. With Ola Money, we are coupling our experience in payment technology with our deep commitment to keep India moving towards a cashless economy, helping realize the Digital India vision," Pallav Singh, SVP and Head of Ola Money at Ola said in a statement.

Apart from public utilities, Ola Money is also accepted at a range of other merchants like Cafe Coffee Day, Dominos, Pizza Hut, BookMyShow, Ebay, Cleartrip, GoIbibo, Yatra, IRCTC, RSRTC, Mumbai Metro, and more. Recently, Ola also launched Ola Credit - a new postpaid service where consumers can pay later for the rides to conserve cash in times of crunch. The company claims that L&T, Siemens, and IBM among others have already availed the new service.
