Nokia has revealed that it is going to revamp its Navteq navigation and location-based solutions unit to provide new social-location based features.

Nokia, which acquired Navteq for $8.1 billion in late 2007, said that the overhaul, aims to deliver differentiated geo-specific social services as well as hyper-local mobile advertising services for brands and merchants. It will transition all Nokia devices including the ongoing availability of Navteq services to its B2B partners that are designed to build an ecosystem with Microsoft, location content that enables enhanced user experiences, and location based advertising.

In fact, some of Nokia’s and Navteq’s individual sub-units are to be transferred to new groups in concurrence with the platform revamp, with most falling under Nokia’s new Mobile Phones Business Unit. The change is set to take place on May 1 as Nokia will merge its current location services with Navteq.
