Nikon has just announced the D5600 DSLR camera with new features like SnapBridge functionality, expanded ISO sensitivity, and time-lapse movie function. The camera will go on to replace the existing D5500 when it launches in India by the end of this month. Nikon hasn't revealed any retail pricing as of now but we expect it to be around the Rs. 60,000 mark, with the kit lens. The camera will be sold in a variety of bundles starting with just the body or with the AF-P DX NIKKOR 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR lens; AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-140mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR lens; or with both AF-P DX NIKKOR 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR and AF-P DX NIKKOR 70-300mm f/4.5-6.3G ED VR lens.
The biggest new feature compared to its predecessor is SnapBridge, which was also seen on D3400 and more expensive offerings like the D500. The D5600 is now equipped with Bluetooth and NFC, in addition to Wi-Fi, which lets you maintain an always-on connection between your phone and the camera. Using the free SnapBridge app that's available on Android and iOS, users can automate the transfers of pictures as soon as they are clicked. You also have the option to sync either the full resolution photo or a smaller sized one, for easy sharing on social. This works even then the camera is switched off. If you need to transfer movie clips or select still images, then you always have Wi-Fi to fall back on.
Nikon has also improved the touchscreen functionality in the D5600 by incorporating the frame advance bar from the higher-end D5 and D500, for scrolling through images in full-frame playback. The Fn function button also supports enabling and disabling of Auto ISO. The camera also features a time-lapse movie function built-in, which is a nice addition.
Commenting on the announcement of the D5600, Kazuo Ninomiya, Managing Director, Nikon India said, "We are proud to bring forward the latest product in the preferred D5000-series to our customers. The camera embodies this sentiment and is presented with the new SnapBridge function, expanded ISO sensitivity, and in-camera time-lapse movie function, all fitted into a compact and lightweight D-SLR body with a vari-angle touch screen LCD monitor."
The rest of the features don't differ too much from the existing D5500 model. It has 24-megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor with Expeed 4 image processor; ISO range of 100-25600; 39 focus points; built-in flash; 5fps burst shooting; and video recording up to 1080p at 60fps.
