Nikon on Wednesday announced the India launch of its new DX format camera, the Nikon D3300. The camera, which was already available via various channels in the country since the last week of February, is now available at Rs. 32,450 (only body), Rs. 37,950 (body and AF-S 18-55mm VRII kit lens) and Rs. 46,950 (body and AF-S 18-55mm VRII + AF-S 55-200mm VR Kit Lenses).
In addition Nikon also announced the official price of its full-frame camera, the Nikon D4S, which was launched in India on 6 March 2014. According to Nikon, it will be available for a maximum pricing of Rs. 4,19,950.
The Nikon D3300 has a 24.2-megapixel DX-format CMOS sensor without an optical low-pass filter and the latest EXPEED 4 image processing system. It features the AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VRII lens. It is the first such lens for Nikon SLR cameras (F mount) to offer a retractable lens mechanism. It offers full-HD movie recording at 1080p at 60fps.
The D3300 features 13 special effect modes, lighter body weight, and a new optical design. It was first showcased at CES 2014. It also has a guide mode that will help users to improve on their photography skills. The camera will also allow users to use the WU-1a Wireless Mobile Adapter to wirelessly control the camera's shutter and transfer images to smartphones and tablets based on the Android and iOS platforms.
The Nikon D4S is a full-frame camera with a 16.2-megapixel FX-format CMOS sensor similar to the Nikon D3S. It has the Expeed 4 image-processing engine, with a rated ISO range of 100-25,600. The camera has single-point AF, dynamic-area AF, 3D-tracking, auto-area AF and group-area AF. According to Nikon, this helps ensure not just smooth and fast autofocusing, but also allows users to shoot at 11fps with AF and AE tracking.
Speaking about the cameras' launch in the country, Hiroshi Takashina, Managing Director, Nikon India said, "Today's announcement reiterates our commitment to offer products that exhibit exceptional performance and image quality in challenging environments. Our D-SLR camera business has become more successful than ever with over 20% growth over the last year.
