Taylor ton in vain as NZ win by 4 wickets

For the second successive match, Zimbabwe captain Brendan Taylor hit an unbeaten century and finished on the losing side as New Zealand won the second one-day international by four wickets at Harare Sports Club on Saturday.

Taylor made 107 not out off 105 balls with 12 fours and a six to enable Zimbabwe to reach 259 for eight.

But in-form Martin Guptill hit a century of his own to secure victory for New Zealand. Guptill, who made a hundred on debut against the West Indies in Auckland in January 2009, notched his second century in his 54th match. Brendon McCullum made 87 off 99 but was dropped four times.

Malcolm Waller smashed an unbeaten 99 off 74 balls to guide Zimbabwe to a one-wicket in the third and final One-Day International at Queens Sports Club here on Tuesday. New Zealand won the series 2-1.

Brendan Taylor and Tatenda Taibu also scored half-centuries in the host's thrilling win.

Earlier, New Zealand skipper Ross Taylor and Kane Williamson hit centuries as New Zealand piled up 328 for five. Taylor (119) and Williamson (100 not out) shared a fifth-wicket stand of 195 off only 133 balls.

Zimbabwe made a good start by claiming the first three wickets for 41 runs, with bustling fast bowler Njabulo Ncube taking two wickets in his first spell in international cricket.

Taylor made a cautious start, taking 83 balls to reach his half-century, as he and Jesse Ryder (53) launched a recovery with a fourth-wicket stand of 83.

The tempo increased rapidly when Williamson joined Taylor, who reached his sixth One-Day International century in 115 balls.

Guptill ton puts NZ in command

Martin Guptill hit his second Test century to put New Zealand in firm control of their one-off Test against Zimbabwe at Queens Sports Club yesterday.

Guptill made the most of a flat pitch to hit 109, while captain Ross Taylor made an unbeaten half-century as the Black Caps closed day one on 275 for three.

Zimbabwe's bowlers found the going tough on a wicket which offered little assistance, but could have dismissed both Taylor and BJ Watling in the final half hour of the day were it not for a couple of dropped catches.

Vettori helps Kiwis take big lead

Daniel Vettori's 20th five-wicket haul put New Zealand in firm control of the one-off Test match against Zimbabwe here on Thursday.

Vettori took five for 70 as Zimbabwe was bowled out for 313 before New Zealand closed day three on 28 for two, giving it an overall lead of 141.

Zimbabwe's innings was a story of missed opportunities, with Vusi Sibanda falling short of a maiden Test century and Brendan Taylor dismissed at a critical time after making a promising half-century.

The host began on 82 for one and put on a couple of solid partnerships.

However, it fell short of the big total as its weak tail folded and Malcolm Waller was left stranded on 72 not out.

Sibanda and Tatenda Taibu were the most culpable as far as wasted opportunities were concerned. Sibanda (93) gave part-time seamer Dean Brownlie his first wicket in any form of cricket after a 76-run stand with Taylor while Taibu threw his wicket away.
