Correct me if i am wrong,isn't the lost ball has to replaced with a similar condition ball?I mean it isn't that a 80 overs old ball will be replaced by an entirely new ball.

New ball was already taken by then and was used for like 6 overs and then got replaced after the six. I doubt they would have a 6 overs old ball?

Lost ball was 6 ovs old 2nd new ball as only 86.3 ovs happen so technically nz get 3rd new ball

I said similar condition ball not same over ball.
If, during play, the ball cannot be found or recovered or the umpires agree that it has become unfit for play through normal use, the umpires shall replace it with a ball which has had wear comparable with that which the previous ball had received before the need for its replacement. When the ball is replaced, the umpire shall inform the batters and the fielding captain.

This scenario reminds me australia vs england ashes test when australia cruzing then suddenly england appeal for ball change and fate. Changed
