MPCA going ahead with preparation for third India-NZ Test

The Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association (MPCA) is going ahead with preparations for the third and final Test between India and New Zealand, scheduled to be held at the Holkar Stadium in Indore from October 8-12, a top official of the state body said on Tuesday.

"We have not received any intimation from the BCCI till now and are going ahead with our preparations," MPCA's honorary secretary, Milind Kanmadikar, told PTI from Indore.

Doubts had arisen over the conduct of the game after the Supreme Court-appointed Justice R M Lodha Committee had stopped disbursement of large sums of money to the various state units by the Indian cricket board after it decided on this course of action at the emergent working committee meeting here on September 30.

Reacting to the Lodha Committee's instructions to its bankers BCCI president, Anurag Thakur, said on Tuesday, "Most state units are unsure how they will be able to host games in this home season. They need to decide whether they can host the games or not, with or without money."

Kanmadikar also said that MPCA has already spent some money to conduct the game but has not yet asked for reimbursement, which was also subject to some upper limit, from the Board.

Meanwhile, MPCA Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Rohit Pandit told reporters in Indore, "We have not received official word (from BCCI yet that the final test between Indian and New Zealand has been stopped,"

"We got information from media reports, but cannot act on such reports. We are going ahead as scheduled, given that BCCI had asked us to shoulder the responsibility", Pandit said to a query regarding the BCCI's threat.

"We are putting extra labour for the match given moisture in the weather and drizzle since the past week", Pandit added.

Hundred staffers have been deputed to cover the ground in case of rain. Besides, we have machinery to dry the field and drain out water from the ground, the MPCA CEO informed.

"We have not asked BCCI for reimbursement. The reimbursement will come (later)," said Kanmadikar.

Incidentally, the scheduled Test will be the first-ever to be conducted at Indore, which has a strong tradition in the game and was the home venue for the strong Holkar team of yesteryears.

Stalwarts such as Col. C K Nayudu and Mushtaq Ali were playing for the Holkar team, which won the Ranji Trophy on four occasions in the past under Nayudu's leadership, before it became MPCA.

IND vs NZ, 3rd Test, Indore: No changes in the match schedule, reveals MPCA secretary

Amidst uncertainty over the third Test between India and New Zealand, Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association (MPCA) secretary Milind Kanmadikar on Wednesday said the match is on as they are yet to receive any official word from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

The third and final Test is scheduled to be hosted at the Holkar stadium here from October 8 and the hosts MPCA has decided to go ahead with their preparations.

"The match is on. We have made all the arrangements for it. The national cricket board has not given any direction for the cancellation of the match," Kanmadikar told IANS.

Earlier, the BCCI had threatened to call off the ongoing New Zealand series after claiming that their bank accounts were frozen by the Supreme Court-appointed R.M. Lodha panel.
Amidst the on-going tussel between Lodha Panel and the Indian cricket board, BCCI chief Anurag Thakur earlier released a statement, "I can't talk about whether series will go on or not but if players and associations are not paid, it raises serious at a time when the team is number one in Tests, No 2 in T20s, No 3 in ODIs. It's the most powerful Board. We have created a successful tournament like IPL. We can't run the game without money,"

Thakur further fumed, "BCCI does not take any money from outside whether it's central or state government. Banks were told not to release payments. It is unfortunate that such a situation has arisen. Has BCCI not done anything at all these years, these questions need to be answered,"

In the latest developments, it has been reported that banks have/ or will be defreezing the BCCI accounts to enable them in proceeding with the scheduled events.

Indian Cricket fans feared that they might not see the India-New Zealand cricket series concluding in a spectacular fashion for the local team, who currently sit top of ICC Test rankings. But it seems that despite the Lodha-BCCI war, the Indore Test isn't going to be affected as the state board has already made all the arrangement for the match.

India v New Zealand: Kane Williamson may return for third Test

New Zealand bowling coach Shane Jurgensen on Thursday hinted that skipper and prolific batsman Kane Williamson will play the third Test, which they need to win to salvage some pride.

Williamson did well in the Kanpur Test with scores of 75 and 25 but he missed the second Test in Kolkata due to illness.

"It's looking positive. Final confirmation on that will probably be tomorrow. We trained today and he did some batting and had a decent hit and a run-around. We will have another look at him tomorrow but it looks positive," Jurgensen said at a press conference.

Jugensen was also optimistic about
Jimmy Neesham , who missed the first two Tests due to rib injury.

"His ribs have settled down nicely. He has got through quite a few overs in the last week and had an extra bowl the day after the game and another bowl today. He got through five or six overs today no problems," he said.

Asked if they will adopt a different strategy against Indian lower order, which has fetched a lot of crucial runs for the hosts in the series, Jurgensens said they need to try out new things.

"It is certainly an area where the Indian team has been on the improve is that all those guys can bat. I've got to look at areas of their weaknesses. Looking at old footage from the past few years they have certainly improved.

Ravindra Jadeja is a dangerous player. It is something that tactically we might make some changes around the way we approach that with field placements. It is just taking away what the opposition is comfortable in doing," he said.
Jurgensen also said they are keeping a close watch on the strip for the match.

"We had a brief look at the pitch but it can change a lot in the next 24 hours. We'll have another look at it tomorrow. It is something we normally we are used to seeing in India but with this rain around we'll keep a close on [the pitch] over the next 24 hours."

Jurgensen said he was "pleased how their bowlers have gone, particularly in the second innings."

"I think we bowled at the times when it was the hottest and most humid, the intensity the guys brought in the second innings and to take 20 wickets and get ourselves in the game and give us an opportunity was fantastic," he said.

The coach also noted that Indian bowlers have been improving consistently.

"One area I've been observing is the Indian bowlers are very accurate, they have developed a lot in that area. They put a lot of pressure on and use subtle variations. Ravindra Jadeja has improved a lot, and they know the conditions very well and they manipulate it to suit."

"There has been a lot of positives out of the first Test and that is what we are focussing on. Teams have come here previously and it is hard work for all nations. It's a very unique and challenging place to play and a very special place to play. We've got one test to go and right now that is the most important. We've got a lot to play for."

The Kiwis were pleased with the warm welcome accorded to them in Indore.

"It is unbelievable. Our arrival last night the streets were lined with people. It's very exciting to see the reception we have had and even training today they're clapping wickets and fours and sixes. It is going to be a pretty loud test match I think so it is actually good training for us. We welcome them to come to training because I think that is going to be the next five days," he said.
