I am planning to buy a used TP-Link XC220-G3v AC1200 GPON ONU (Version 2.0). It is an older release, but the newer model with the same model number supports XPON (GPON/EPON).

If I buy the older version, can I update its firmware to the latest version and use it with EPON? My BSNL connection uses EPON in my area.

I think simply flashing the newer firmware in older generation hardware won't be supported. In fact it can brick the router.

They must have improved the product on hardware side also and then released an updated model.

Generally TP Link routers firmwares are hardware version specific.

For example, TP Link Archer C6 v2 won't support Archer C6 v4 firmware.

Firmwares specific to hardwares. Hence we can not flash with new firmware which is not specific to particular model. Doing so will make the device brick and non functional.

Better buy from OLX then, u might find good exchange in there coz simple flashing will not work for older models.
