Najam Sethi elected to ICC ExCo
The Pakistan Cricket Board has said that its chairman, Najam Sethi, has been elected to the ICC's executive committee which was formed on Friday.
The Pakistan Cricket Board has said that its chairman, Najam Sethi, has been elected to the ICC's executive committee which was formed on Friday. According to a media release from the PCB, the Pakistan board and the West Indies Cricket Board will be the fourth and fifth members of the committee, on which the BCCI, Cricket Australia and the ECB hold permanent positions.
The executive committee was created as part of the raft of changes ushered in by the boards of India, England and Australia earlier this year, described by its architects as "the sole recommendation committee on all financial (including ICC distributions and costs), constitutional, personnel (other than event personnel), anti-corruption, ethics, integrity, development and director nominations matters".
"Our representation on the ExCo would ensure that Pakistan remains involved in the important decision-making concerning the game of cricket," Sethi said in the release. "It also reflects that Pakistan now holds an important and undisputed position within the top echelon of the cricketing fraternity. The progress on ICC amendments in ICC's Anti-Corruption Code is also very encouraging and is yet another step closer to the early entry of Mohammad Amir in cricket".
The PCB has also said that it would look at making an application before the ICC regarding the ban on Mohammad Amir, imposed after the spot-fixing scandal of 2010. After the 2013 annual conference, the ICC had set up a five-member committee to "review and recommend amendments to the ICC Anti-Corruption Code". The PCB's release said that a draft clause had been inserted into the code, which permitted a banned player to play domestic cricket before the period of his suspension ended.
This re-drafted code will be discussed by the ICC's board of directors, following which the PCB will decide on the application.
The formal announcement related to the composition of committees is expected tomorrow after the signing of various documents is completed.
