Chennai: Renowned Tamil Muslim devotional singer and DMK propagandist Nagore EM Hanifa died here on Thursday of an age-related ailment. He was 90.
Hanifa breathed his last at his residence here tonight, DMK sources said.
He had sung a number of Tamil Muslim devotional songs and was a leading propagandist of DMK for more than five decades.
Hailing from the pilgrim town of Nagore in Nagapattinam district, Hanifa's voice was popular among the DMK cadre.
He was a member of the now defunct Tamil Nadu Legislative Council in the early 1970s.
DMK President M Karunanidhi condoled the death of Hanifa and recalled his contribution to the growth of the party, especially through the rendering of party anthems in his unique voice.

Nagore Esmail Mohammed Hanifa (25 December 1925[1] - 8 April 2015[2]) is Tamil Muslim Politician and a Playback Singer. He is member of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam. He is called as "Isai Murasu" (இசை முரசு) which means musical drum.
Hanifa’s rousing anthems boosted the fortunes of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam from the 1930s. His "Oadi varugiran Udhayasooriyan", "Kallakkudi konda Karunanidhi vaazhgave", "Nee engae senrai Anna" and "Azhaikkinrar Anna" are still used by the DMK to raise party morale. He was a leading propagandist of DMK for past five decades. He also sang for a few films including Paava Mannippu in which he sang the song "Yellorum Kondaduvom" along with T. M. Soundararajan, ‘Un mathama’ in Raman Abdullah and also in Sembaruthi. His song Iraivanidam Kaiyenthungal is very famous among all the Tamils.
