After years of development and billions of dollars in investment, NASA's next Mars rover, Curiosity, is slated to land on the Red Planet on Aug. 6, 2012 (EDT).
Today, the team from NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratories (JPL) published a short video clip that explains this landing process in dramatic detail, putting a particular emphasis on the degree of difficulty involved. Have a look at the video
