KOLKATA: Sistema Shyam Teleservices Ltd (SSTL), which delivers CDMA mobile services under the MTS brand in 20 circles, on Friday crossed the 2 million sub-scriber mark in West Bengal (including Kolkata circle).
The mobile JV between Russia's Sistema and India's Shyam Group, will now invest Rs 75 crore to expand its operations in the state.
Though SSTL has a modest 3% market share in the state, it had a 70 per cent share of the net-adds on a month-on-month basis in the state's CDMA turf, said Keshav Ti-wary, SSTL's chief operating officer for Kolkata and West Bengal circles.
"Crossing 2 million customers in Kolkata and the rest of Bengal in just two years is a significant milestone for MTS as this is a fiercely competitive and price-senstive market. The West Bengal circle along with Karnataka, Ra-jasthan, Tamil Nadu and Kerala, is one of our Top 5 markets in revenue terms," said Tiwary.
The SSTL's marketing network aross in the state comprises over 100 branded retail outlets and 45,000 retailers, across some 100 towns and 10,000 villages.
