Buoyed by the response to its smartphones and the company's growth last year, Motorola India has more aggressive plans for the Indian market this year.
Motorola, which has only been concentrating on devices since it re-entered the Indian market, is now aiming to focus on service needs of consumers, and is, therefore, mulling over setting up Moto exclusive experience zones.
Lenovo-owned Motorola will set up its first Moto exclusive experience zone in Bangalore by March, said Amit Boni, general manager of Motorola India. "We aim to open 5 to 10 Moto exclusive experience zones in India in the next 6 to 9 months," he added.
When asked about services that users will be able to access at these zones, he said, "Motorola users will get services ranging from software upgrade to hands-on of products and can also get their devices repaired."
Another idea the company has up its sleeves to enhance customer service experience is rolling out Moto Care vans to provide faster services. "The intent behind this is that we don't want our customers to wait for services. We want to bring their waiting period during after sales support down from 5 days to 30 minutes or an hour," said Boni.
The company calls it an experimental innovation and says more details about Moto Care vans will be out in the 2-3 weeks time.
Besides its roadmap for after sales support, Motorola's Boni in a joint media briefing with Michael Adnani, vice-president for retail at Flipkart, also revealed the number of units the company has sold since it made a comeback to India in partnership with Fipkart.
"We have sold over 3 million Moto smartphones since we re-entered the Indian market in February last year and the Moto G and Mot E smartphones constitute the volume," disclosed Boni.
Boni also made it clear that Motorola, which was recently acquired by China's Lenovo from Google for $2.9 billion, will run as a separate brand in India as it has a significant value in the country.
The company that has been selling its devices only via Flipkart currently has no plans to opt for an offline channel.
