After all the leaks and rumors coming out of China over the past few weeks, Lenovo has finally launched the Moto M smartphone that adds an all-new mid-range handset to the company’s burgeoning product range. The device is currently available for purchase from Chinese e-commerce portal, TMall, for 1,999 Yuan ($295). The company has already launched a bunch of Moto-branded smartphones this year, and recent reports have also indicated that the Moto Z line has already managed to hit sales of 1 million units globally. Meanwhile, as for the Moto M, there’s no word currently on whether the device will ever see a wider release outside of China, but earlier rumors had pointed at a global model that might be launched in the U.S. and some other international markets at some stage in the future.
Taking a look at some of the hardware specs of the latest Motorola handset, the device features a 5.5-inch 1080p display panel, as was rumored earlier. The phone is powered by a MediaTek Helio P15 SoC, which comes with an octa-core CPU clocked at a maximum of 2.2GHz. The handset comes with 4GB of RAM and 32GB of built-in storage, but users will have the option of adding extra storage, thanks to the presence of a microSD card slot. The phone will also have Dolby Atmos sound, while the battery will be a 3,050 mAh unit. The phone also comes with a fingerprint scanner on the rear, but there’s no mention of an NFC chip, meaning, it may not be compatible with mobile payment systems like Android Pay.
Imaging options on the all-new Moto M will include a rear-facing 16-megapixel primary camera with an LED flash and phase detection auto-focus (PDAF), while an 8-megapixel front-facing camera is expected to take care of the selfies and video chats. Finally, the handset comes with a splash-proof metal unibody design with a P2i hydrophobic coating that Lenovo says will provide protection from the odd splashes of liquid. As mentioned already, the device comes with a price-tag of $295 in China. A variant powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 is rumored to be in the pipelines, and if Lenovo does decide to take its Moto M line outside of it home country, that might just be the device to get the nod.
