French firm Netgem has launched a new software solution called the Cloud, which aims to support operators' aim of enabling simple and consistent access to all content (including live TV and video-on-demand) from any connected device within the home.
The new software suite turns a set-top box into a multimedia server and connected devices into client devices, leveraging the power of the cloud while giving the end-user full control over content through local storage and management. An iPad application is to be the first implementation of the Cloud, which enables users to receive all linear TV channels alongside access to their personal content.
Monaco Telecom, which selected Netgem technology last year for its launch of IPTV services in the principality, will be the first to launch the new Cloud solution on its network, through a simple software update.
