The Rajasthan Commission for Women (RCW) on Friday launched a safety app for women — ‘Raj Mahila Suraksha’.
Launching the app, RCW chairperson Suman Sharma said it is the aim of the commission to make women feel safe. The women should lead a life free from fear. So, the commission has launched the app for women which was announced on International Women’s Day, she said.
The app was developed with the help from department of information technology & communication.
She said that the app has been launched in the state after ensuring its feasibility with the help of Jaipur police commissionarate. Before the launch of the app, a training of officials was also conducted. The app has features of sending alerts at three locations - the nearest police station, the women’s commission and one additional number of a friend or family - when activated.
The alert can be activated by merely shaking and tapping the mobile thrice.
The developers have kept it in mind that in case of an emergency, a girl might not have the time to dial a number or send a message. So they have made it a ‘shake app’. On activation, an alert would be sent through a GPS to the nearest police station and the state women's commission while a message will also go to a friend or family member of the user.
