BENGALURU: One Touch Response, a Delhi-based startup, has launched a mobile application that promises a military- style approach to safety for people in distress, especially women.
After receiving an emergency alert through a mobile application or phone call, One Touch Response sends a team of first responders, who use satellite navigation technologies to reach the location on bikes and provide assistance.
They are trained in self-defence, first aid and evacuation techniques. One Touch also coordinates with its network, which consists of hundreds of police stations, hospitals, ambulances and fire stations. "Private security is not accessible to the masses," said Arvind Khanna, 48-year-old founder of One Touch. "Consumer is the next way to go, like insurance, this is a latent need product."
Entrepreneur-politician Khanna resigned as a Congress MLA in Punjab in January to focus on his dreams and spend time with family. The yearold firm has already tested the concept successfully in National Capital Region. Over 10,000 have subscribed and are charged a fee of Rs 250 per month.
One Touch is now scouting for funding to launch in Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad and Kolkata. Industry experts and investors see a huge potential in a private safety and security services business, which is estimated to be worth over Rs 3,000 crore and is growing at 20% year-on-year.
Prajakt Raut, founder of Delhi-based incubator The Hub for Startups and tech startup Applyifi, is of the view that services like One Touch Response are innovating on business models to create shared services for individuals.
