Earlier icons were better than new icons, i liked old ones as new ones takes us backwards. They aren't flat like other MS icons.

By the way, i still do wonder why Skype is tied up (combined) with MS Office!? How it comes under Office category.o_O

Maybe some windows icons too

This is nice. This was being tested in the November 2015 update for insiders but was pulled down. The icons are definitely way more nicer now, and hopefully it comes in a future windows 10 release (definitely not happening in the march 2019 release, unless they haven't feature locked yet)

Maybe they're doing this now because of the light theme coming in the next release

That will transit into the normal Skype as well as Microsoft can't risk a separate identity for the Skype name
Not sure if I understand what you are saying. But even today, there are two versions of Skype, one for business and one for personal. The Skype personal edition is not clubbed into office, but the Business version does.

Yes, despite both being different products, they share the common name - Skype. If there's some change in the identity of one, there will be ripples created in the other product as well. So considering this situation, if one's identity changes, the other product's identity will have to change as Microsoft can't risk two identities for two products sharing the same name
