After HP, Micromax is here with a large screen phablet aptly named Canvas XL ( A119). Priced at Rs 13,990, Canvas XL will be exclusively available on Homeshop18 TV channel and website starting January 19. The popular online retailer will also add special gifts and freebies worth Rs 6,498 with the phone.
The Canvas XL is a dual-SIM phablet with dual standby. Sporting a 6-inch 960×540 display, it comes powered by a 1.3GHz quad-core processor coupled with 1GB RAM. However, the chipset is unspecified. On the camera front, the device won’t disappoint with an 8MP rear snapper and a 5MP front camera.
The Canvas XL runs Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, which will get some Micromax-specific apps. In terms of cellular connectivity, it has 3G support, but whether it is on both SIMs, is as yet unknown. Like most budget devices, its 4GB internal memory is expandable up to 32GB via microSD card slot. Other connectivity options listed on the site include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS. All of this is fuelled by a 2450mAh battery.
Homeshop18 will start taking orders for the smartphone from 10AM onwards on January 19, and the device will be delivered without any shipping charges. Apart from the TV channel and website, users can also place orders via the online retailer’s mobile apps.
These days manufacturers seem to be breaking the 5-inch display barrier with great regularity. Recently, HP announced 6-inch and 7-inch Slate VoiceTabs, designed specifically for Indian market. Both phablets support dual-SIM and voice-calling functionality. And earlier this month, Sony announced the 6-inch Xperia T2 Ultra, which will also feature dual SIM slots and will be targetted at emerging markets. Looks like phablet fans in India will soon have a bunch of new options to choose from.
