Mercedes-Benz India's May sales showed a remarkable increase after the premium carmaker sold 561 units marking a 36 per cent increase. The company had sold 411 units during the corresponding period last year.
Mercedes-Benz India in a statement said that during the January-May, the company's sales rose 60 per cent to 3,233 units from 2,015 units as compared to the same period last year. Sales of the Mercedes C-Class sedan increased by 45 per cent to 314 units while the E-Class sedan's sales grew 14 per cent to 130 units. Mercedes-Benz's SUVs which include the M-Class and the GL-Class also sold well.
Debashis Mitra, Mercedes-Benz India Director (Marketing and Sales), said: "Mercedes-Benz performed extremely well in both in the sedan segment as well as in the SUV segment. Our SUV’s are synonymous with performance, robustness and versatility, and the growing preference for our SUVs each month is a testimony of this fact. We will continue with our robust performance for the rest of 2011 and create new benchmarks."
The Indian luxury car market has been on an upswing and Mercedes-Benz's May sales is a clear indicator. Luxury car sales of other brands such as BMW, Audi and Jaguar have also increased.
