Live worms were found in a packet of Nestle Cerelac baby food bought by an IT professional in Coimbatore for his one-year-old son.

S Sriram, an IT professional, bought a packet of Nestle Cerelac from a medical shop at Perur here on Sunday. His wife opened the packet on Monday afternoon and found several red worms in the wheat and milk powder.

"We checked again and found that the product expires only in February 2016," said Sriram.

He filed a complaint with the food safety department on Tuesday morning, and the milk powder was sent to the government food laboratory for testing.

Officials said the worms might have multiplied after packaging. "The worms look like weevils, which commonly infest wheat," said a food safety officer.

"These worms have a way of penetrating into the wheat grain and laying an egg inside it and leaving. When the wheat is crushed, the eggs hatch," he said.
It may be recalled that live larvae and worms were found in a packet of Nestle NanPro 3 milk powder in Coimbatore a couple of weeks ago.

OMG..!! Nestle is in a deep trouble for his products. But it may be due to if pack is expired or over dated and shopkeeper is selling it for the profit without knowing the facts

These incidents might have happened in the past as well. But since Nestle is burning topic now, even if a small issue is there it'll be shown in a magnifying glass by the media. Cheap tactics. What happened to the IAS guy who killed himself in Bangalore. They gave full coverage for 4 days and now we don't even know where is that case. When Delhi rape incident happened, it was only news about rapes that were covered for many days in the media. Tomorrow if a new issue is found they'll forget about Nestle!! Pity us!!
