LG to Reportedly Move Away From Modular Design for LG G6 Smartphone...

There are experiments that work and then there are experiments that make companies go back to the drawing boards. When LG introduced the concept of modular accessories with its smartphone LG G5 earlier this year, few could have imagined that this move will fall in the latter category. However, if reports are to be believed, the South Korean company will be ditching the support for modular accessories next year with its next flagship smartphone, currently speculated to be called the LG G6.
As per a news report by South Korean news firm ET News, "multiple representatives from multiple industries" have claimed that LG will not modularise its next smartphone. This move cannot be termed surprising at all as users often found it difficult and complicated to switch between the modular accessories. Further, as the modular accessories had to be bought separately, the effective cost of owning the smartphone went further up. These reasons arguably contributed to the poor sales performance of the smartphone.
The modular accessories, dubbed as LG Friends, included the LG Cam Plus, a camera add-on, and Hi-Fi Plus, which was co-developed by LG and Bang & Olufsen, a portable Hi-Fi DAC which can be used as a standalone portable DAC or with the G5 to enable 32-bit audio playback.
This report comes as a surprise especially because the company's spokesperson Ken Hong confirmed in September that LG will not ditch the "modular concept in the subsequent generation" of G-Series smartphones, despite the G5's performance in the market.
It should be noted that like every other rumour, we will have to wait for company's official announcement for any confirmation.

Recently, reports started surfacing over the Internet hinting the drop out of the modular design in LG’s upcoming flagship smartphone, G6, which is expected to be launched next year. The reports also claimed that the fall of the company’s current flagship smartphone, G5 and its modular accessories due to a fact that users had to remove the battery to add in modules, was a reason for the company to take this step.
While that was pretty much a shocker to most of us, a new report states that the G6 smartphone could actually be bringing in the Iris Scanner in it, after the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 device didn’t do well in the market. According to a recent post published on BGR , the reports suggest that the company has already started working on the technology, while it is being said that the implementation of the same may be different from that of the Samsung Galaxy Note 7.

It is also being said that, Korea’s Digital Bakjeongil Times recently reported that LG is planning an integrated iris recognition module mounted on smartphones. This means that, the upcoming LG smartphone may be featuring a single camera module unlike Galaxy Note 7’s separate camera for the purpose of iris scanning. For this to actually work, the company will have to actually add in some sort of filter into the regular camera module.
However, no further details are yet available, including camera resolution, sensor size, and aperture. But, with reports hinting at the company’s decision of moving out of modular accessories, this too may install a feeling of fear in customers’ mind. Who knows, when the company will pull it back again!
However, for more details, we may have to actually wait and watch until LG gives a public announcement regarding its upcoming smartphone, G6 and its expected features.

LG G6 Leaks Tips Company May Drop Modular Design...

After surprising one and all with its modular G5 flagship smartphone earlier this year, LG might be taking a step back. The LG G5 failed to hit the numbers after its launch which is perhaps why the company was rumoured earlier to drop its modular dreams with its next flagship, likely to be named the LG G6.
To get an idea of what the LG G6 (minus the modular accessories) could look like, popular tipster @OnLeaks in collaboration with MySmartPrice has released images and video renders of LG's upcoming flagship device.

Going by the images and video the LG G6 looks like a non-modular smartphone. In fact, the renders portray a plain design with a glossy finish. With no components that are removable or added, the renders offer very little to take note of.

The edges around the LG G6 are chamfered while the rear panel is completely flat and may be non-removable. A fingerprint scanner is placed just below the rear camera setup. A USB Type-C port is seen at the bottom next to what looks like a bottom-firing speaker. It also looks as though LG is among the few who may still keep the headphone jack.
According to the folks at MySmartPrice, the LG G6 will feature a 5.3-inch Quad-HD display, similar to the G5. Meanwhile, the upcoming flagship is expected to pack top-of-the-line specifications, which should include Qualcomm's new Snapdragon 835 SoC.

The site also states that LG plans to launch the G6 in glossy and matte finishes and that the company might use a "highly reflective metallic material" for the rear panel.
Additionally, the LG could use a wireless charging module at the rear to power up the G6's battery by up to 50 percent in 30 minutes, according to an earlier report.
It should also be noted that in September, LG's spokesperson Ken Hong confirmed that LG will not ditch the "modular concept in the subsequent generation" of G-Series smartphones. This makes the renders highly questionable so do take it with a pinch of salt.
While the company has been very hush about its upcoming flagship, the LG G6 may be unveiled at the MWC 2017 in February since the G5 was unveiled at the MWC earlier this year.
However, a new report by ETNews suggests LG could launch the G6 a month earlier than usual to improve sales and beat the likes of Samsung's S series. This could mean that the announcement could take place as early as January as well.

Ahead of its official launch at upcoming MWC trade show, LG G6 has already been confirmed to pack-in an almost bezel-less FullVision display. The LG G6 is also getting a refreshed UX 6.0 that is optimised for the new display. And now, fresh hands-on images and a specifications rundown of LG G6 have been shared that confirm almost everything about the smartphone.
LG is going to unveil its next flagship smartphone - LG G6 - at Mobile World Congress on February 26. There have been many leaks and reports suggesting what the LG G6 will look like along with its specifications. New images of LG G6 (silver colour model) have been shared by 9to5Google that show the front and rear side of the smartphone, which we have been seeing in multiple leaks. What's different this time is the always-on display feature touted to be present in LG G6, which looks like what we have seen on Moto phones, with time/ date information on the screen and preview of other notifications that arrive on the phone.
The images also show an almost bezel-less display with rounded corners, which has been confirmed by LG to bear an aspect ratio of 18:9. The rear side of the LG G6 mounts a dual-camera setup with flashlight and a fingerprint scanner, which confirms the previous reports about LG G6. Apart from this, 9to5Google also received rundown of LG G6 specifications from the same source. Corroborating the earlier leaks, the LG G6 is tipped to have a 5.7-inch QHD display, 3200mAh battery, Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 SoC coupled with 4GB of RAM and a 32GB base variant.
