Lenovo is gearing up for a launch event in India on September 22, where it will be launching the Z2 Plus smartphone. The company has sent out media invites for an event with a caption that is quite self-explanatory — “Witness tomorrow…today. #Fastforward to the Lenovo Z2 Plus.” The upcoming smartphone is believed to the ZUK Z2 that launched in China earlier this year, but Lenovo is dropping the ZUK moniker for the Indian market all together.

In the run up to the launch event next week,
Lenovo has teased various aspects of the Z2 Plus on social media. These include a body made out of materials that is ‘stronger and lighter than metal’. The company has also used an internal heat conduction technology that prevents the device from overheating. The home button is expected to come with U-Touch technology that will be used for navigation and also double up as a fingerprint scanner. The last feature being teased is a health app called U-health that should save and give you access to your health-related information.

Lenovo Z2 Plus specifications

The Lenovo Z2 Plus is expected to feature a 5-inch full HD (1920×1080 pixels) LCD display, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 chipset, 4GB of RAM and 64GB internal storage. For photography enthusiasts there is a 13-megapixel rear camera with f/2.2 aperture, PDAF, electronic image stabilization (EIS) and 4K video recording capabilities, while up front there is an 8-megapixel selfie camera with f/2.0 aperture and 80 degrees wide-angle lens.

The smartphone will also feature a 3,500mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0 support, and connectivity options like dual-SIM card slots, 4G LTE support, USB Type-C port, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. The Z2 Plus will run on Android Marshmallow 6.0 wrapped under ZUI 2.0.

Based on the China pricing and the sort of specifications mentioned, we expect the upcoming Lenovo Z2 Plus to be priced close to the Rs 20,000 mark. At this price range, the smartphone will be up against the likes of the
Xiaomi Mi 5 , but going by its myriad of features, it seems to be aiming for the
OnePlus 3 .
