Lenovo had created a lot of buzz at this year’s IFA 2016 with its new Yoga Book, which is also touted as the world’s slimmest and lightest 2-in-1 tablet. At the time of the launch, Lenovo had disclosed that the device would go on sale in the US by October-end with price starting at $499, which is approximately Rs 34,000. The company is now set to launch the device in India on December 13. So far there’s no word on the final price for the Indian market.
The Yoga Book 2-in-1 measures 9.6mm closed, tapers to 4.05mm at its slimmest edge and weighs 690 grams. The all-new Yoga Book is not only a slim 2-in-1 tablet but also comes with a new design language altogether. It uses Lenovo’s iconic “watchband” hinge, and a custom-made three-axis hinge to attach the two parts. While the first is a touchscreen display, the second one is a touch-sensitive surface, which is powered by Wacom. Called the Create Pad, the surface has a touch-based keyboard and also supports input from a stylus.
Lenovo says the keyboard is capable of learning and adapting to the typing habits of users, courtesy a preloaded artificial learning software. This further helps the keyboard to optimize itself for an individual user. It also has a built-in sensitive haptic technology, which is claimed to help users reduce mistakes. “The halo keyboard far surpasses the typing experience and speed of a normal tablet, and is comparable with that of a physical keyboard,” Lenovo claims. This is among the first wave of 2-in-1s to have such fully touch-based secondary surface.
The device also comes with a dual-use stylus that can be used for writing on paper and screen. Lenovo claims that the stylus, called Real Pen, can draw with the precision of a pencil or paintbrush, with 2,048 pressure levels and 100-degree angle detection. Living up to the moniker, Lenovo says the stylus does not need batteries to be powered, and the ink can be replaced with standard ink tips. Another interesting feature of this stylus is that one can take notes on a real paper, and the Yoga Book will copy the text you have written in real time.
The Lenovo Yoga Book is available in two versions one with Android 6.0 Marshmallow and Windows. Both variants feature 10.1-inch IPS full HD display and Dolby Atmos for the sound experience. The device has 4GB of RAM and 64GB of onboard storage, which can be further expanded via microSD. The 2-in-1 is powered by an Intel Atom x5 processor and a big 8,500mAh battery. Lenovo says the Android version delivers 15 hours of backup and the Windows version gives up to 13 hours of backup.
