Lenovo Enters The Tablet Business

Lenovo recently launched two tablets, and has plans to add more SKUs over the next six months.

To start with Lenovo introduced the first three tablet range which includes the IdeaPad tablet K1, the ThinkPad tablet and the IdeaPad tablet A1. While the IdeaPad Tablet K1 and A1 are for consumers, the ThinkPad tablet is for enterprise customers.

The IdeaPad K1 includes 2MP front facing camera and 45 MP rear cameras, provides connectivity with WiFi, 3G and HDMI port and comes at a price of Rs 29,990. The IdeaPad A1 is a 7-inch tablet that weighs around 400 gms is priced at Rs 15,000 and comes with integrated Bluetooth, 3G and WiFi connectivity, Lenovo social touch application as well as Lenovo App Shop and Android Market.

The Lenovo ThinkPad tablet is targeted at the enterprise customers and comes with additional security features like anti-theft, data encryption features. It also comprises a ThinkPad tablet pen which provides easy jotting down of notes a well as for drawing. The tablet weighs around 700 gms and is priced at Rs 46,900.

All the tablets are based on the Android 3.1 plaform and run on Nvidia Tegra 2 dual-core mobile processors, have scratch proof screens and facility for expandable memory, and come with a one-year warranty.

Amar Babu, Managing Director, Lenovo India said, “Tablets are extremely personal technology devices used primarily for data consumption. Lenovo’s tablet strategy is to create a family of tablets suited to various entertainment and mobility requirements. So whether it’s the IdeaPad for entertainment or the ThinkPad for business, we have listened to our
customers and are delivering Android tablets designed to meet their particular needs. We have also loaded our tablets with a lot of distinct features that will make these machines very appealing.”

The tablets will be available at the 700 Lenovo stores by end of October. Lenovo also plans to increase the number of stores to 1000 by end of the year, informed Babu.
