Samsung has been receiving a lot of flak from users of its flagship, the Galaxy S4. You see, the base model of the Galaxy S4 was advertised as having 16GB of storage, but it only gives you 9.15GB of space to store your data or for installing apps. However, all that will soon be a gripe of the past, as Samsung has begun rolling out a firmware update for the Galaxy S4 that gives users access to more space on the internal storage. The update also brings a lot of improvements, enhancements and bug fixes.

According to a report by SamMobile, the update addresses the storage space issue by letting users move and install apps directly on a microSD card. The new firmware also frees up around 80MB of space, giving you access to a total of 9.23GB

Samsung hasn’t held back when it comes to doling out improvements. You get a new toggle for switching Smart Pause on and off, a semi-transparent status bar, new icons in the Settings menu and an option to increase the legibility of the display. The S4 is also endowed with the ability to record videos in HDR mode, and the camera gets new firmware.

Other changes include a fix for a smearing issue (you could previously see a purple colour effect while scrolling) and a new "Secure boot status" entry in the About phone menu.

SamMobile says the firmware update is currently available for Galaxy S4s with the Snapdragon 600 SoC (GT-I9505), but will also be coming to the international version with the Exynos chipset (GT-I9500) soon. The update is reportedly 365MB in size, and you can perform the update through Samsung's Kies application or over the air (OTA).

Samsung’s flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S4
is receiving a new update. The update is currently
available for the Snapdragon-powered Galaxy S4
and will shortly be available for the Exynos-
powered Galaxy S4. As of now the update is
available only in Germany and there is no
information on when it will be available globally.
One of the biggest issues with the 16GB Galaxy
S4 is that it only offers users a mere 9.15GB of
user available storage. The update will now offer
users an easier way of transferring data from the
built-in storage to the microSD card. The update
also increases the available built-in storage from
9.15GB to 9.23GB.
Other improvements brought with the update
includes a new camera firmware, Smart Pause
Toggle in the drop down notification, ability to
move apps to SD Card, HDR Video recording,
Semi-transparent status bar , new Icons in
Settings and more.

can be downloaded on your Samsung Galaxy S4
via Samsung Kies Over-The-Air. You might want
to keep your device plugged in during the update
process.
The Samsung Galaxy S4 has an Exynos 5 Octa
5410 (quad-core 1.6GHz and quad-core 1.2GHz
for the variant available in Inda) and the PowerVR
SGX 544MP3 along with 2GB of RAM. The S4 has
a 5-inch Super AMOLED display with a
1920x1080 pixel resolution. A 2600mAh battery
powers the package.
