Samsung has been receiving a lot of flak from users of its flagship, the Galaxy S4. You see, the base model of the Galaxy S4 was advertised as having 16GB of storage, but it only gives you 9.15GB of space to store your data or for installing apps. However, all that will soon be a gripe of the past, as Samsung has begun rolling out a firmware update for the Galaxy S4 that gives users access to more space on the internal storage. The update also brings a lot of improvements, enhancements and bug fixes.
According to a report by SamMobile, the update addresses the storage space issue by letting users move and install apps directly on a microSD card. The new firmware also frees up around 80MB of space, giving you access to a total of 9.23GB
Samsung hasn’t held back when it comes to doling out improvements. You get a new toggle for switching Smart Pause on and off, a semi-transparent status bar, new icons in the Settings menu and an option to increase the legibility of the display. The S4 is also endowed with the ability to record videos in HDR mode, and the camera gets new firmware.
Other changes include a fix for a smearing issue (you could previously see a purple colour effect while scrolling) and a new "Secure boot status" entry in the About phone menu.
SamMobile says the firmware update is currently available for Galaxy S4s with the Snapdragon 600 SoC (GT-I9505), but will also be coming to the international version with the Exynos chipset (GT-I9500) soon. The update is reportedly 365MB in size, and you can perform the update through Samsung's Kies application or over the air (OTA).
