Wolverhampton Wanderers winger Michael Kightly is hoping his 18-month long injury lay-off is finally over.

Kightly has been troubled by a series of injuries, most notably ankle and knee setbacks, since the tail-end of 2009. He has not completed 90 minutes since then but made four first-team appearances towards the end of last season and now wants to establish himself as a Barclays Premier League player.

Kightly said: "I've missed too much football during the past two seasons and I'm eager to get back to where I was a couple of years ago."

He added: "I got back at the end of last season but it was difficult in those games because the team were needing points to stay up and we couldn't really carry anyone.

"But we've got a lot of games this pre-season, I've worked hard over the summer and, with a good pre-season, hopefully I can compete for a place.

"It is a big ambition of mine to play well in the Premier League - but I just want to be playing football, full stop.

"I'm aiming to play like I was two years ago before all the injury problems started."
