Exactly what I have been doing from the last few years. Using own router has many advantages. My suggestion is however these ISP routers are garbage buy yourself a decent WiFi 6 router (if you can extend budget go for 160mhz bandwidth model) which will solve all the problems put it on bridge mode and enjoy WiFi 6 router. If ISPs changed multiple times also no problem own router will be there always.
Also, you have rightly said about wifi 6 / 160 mhz. I have been using such a setup and it's providing a seamless experience.
I have recently switched my primary ISP from JioFiber to Airtel Xstream Fiber and due to own wifi 6 router setup, I didn't need to do any changes and everything remained connected.
