Nepal Telecom (NT) and Nepal Television (NTV) are preparing to jointly launch IPTV services in the Himalayan country, with assistance from the International Telecommunications Union (ITU), according to reports from local newspaper República.

The reports quote a source at the country's Ministry of Information and Communications as saying that officials have already held preliminary discussions on the operational structure of IPTV in Nepal.

The project is expected to see Nepal Telecom provide the technical infrastructure for delivery of the service, including optical fibre, while Nepal Television will provide content for the service. The reports also indicate that the two companies are working on making the service available on mobile phone handsets via 3G.
