iPad rival BlackBerry PlayBook to go on sales from April 19

Unveiling its PlayBook tablet, Research In Motion announced that the device will go on sales and can be pre-ordered in the U.S. and Canada for late April deliveries.

Said to be an iPad rival,PlayBookis priced at $499 that is quite identical to Apple?s revolutionary tablet. PlayBook will be available in Best Buy and other stores in the U.S. and Canada from April 19, RIM said in a statement.

While the basic model is a 7-inch device with 16GB of internal storage and WiFi that is priced at $499, the 32GB model comes at $599 and the 64GB version can be availed at $699.

Regardless the models, all the versions have features such as 1GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of memory capacity, an HD 1080p video output and run the Blackberry Tablet OS.

RIM announced that about 20,000 retailers will sell the device.
