The second generation iPad, launched in Spring 2011, is selling at the lowest price ever through Apple’s Special Deals section, where customers can get substantial discounts on refurbished gadgets.

Originally released in March 2011, the standard-configuration iPad 2 with WiFi and 16 gigs of on-board storage can be yours today for just $319 (roughly 250 EUR). By comparison, a third-generation iPad with similar specifications costs $499 - almost $200 extra.

For those who don’t care much about the Retina display on the newer model, this deal is the best you’ll get on an Apple tablet computer. Here’s a rough set of specs from Apple’s site (for the full product description, as well as a “buy” button, go here).

Refurbished iPad 2 with Wi-Fi 16GB - Black (second generation)

- Originally released March 2011
- Wi-Fi
- Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR technology
- FaceTime with 2 cameras
- HD video recording
- Dual-core A5 chip
- 10-hour battery life
- Smart covers (sold separately), instant on
- 9.7-inch widescreen display
- Multi-Touch screen
- 1.33 pounds and 0.34 inch

The Cupertino company continues to sell the original version at a reported $180 discount, but the tablet’s standalone value has deprecated, meaning the best choice remains one of the newer versions.

iPad 2 is 33 percent thinner and up to 15 percent lighter than the original version. “You’ll feel the difference when you pick it up. And when you just can’t put it down,” Apple’s marketing materials state.

It also features an enhanced A5 processor with two powerful cores and faster graphics which enable better web surfing, better movie watching, and better gaming, all with the same 10 hours of battery life.

For those who want to compare specs and evaluate their options, Apple’s Special Deals area awaits right here.
