Despite the conclusion of the Pepsi ICC East-Asia Pacific Division 1 yesterday, International cricket continues in Port Moresby over the next three days with a series of 50 over matches.

In today's matches a PNG Emerging side defeated Japan by eight wickets on Amini Park, and PNG Under 19s defeated Samoa by two wickets on Colts Cricket Ground.

It was not a great day at the office for the boys from Japan who were bowled out by the PNG Emerging side for only 85 in 27.3 overs. The sole performer with the bat for Japan was their captain Tatsuro Chino who made a patient 21 before being bowled by Sese Bau. John Boge Reva was the best of the bowlers taking 3-17.

The PNG Emerging side mate light work of the modest total in reply passing the score with eight wickets in hand after just 15.2 overs. The opening stand of 74 runs between Sese Bau and Kapena Arua included some beautiful stroke play showcasing the bright future of PNG cricket.

With both teams missing a host of regular starters Samoa could only manage 191 against the PNG Under 19 side despite a magnificent 77 from Uala Kaisara. Kaisara was in fantastic form but was forced to go after nearly every delivery as his teammates fell around him and eventually was caught out off the bowling of Henao Getha.

"I was happy with the way I batted today," said Kaisara. "I was trying to get to 100 but it was a pretty good catch that got me."

The bowlers who did the damage for the young PNG boys were Allan Joseph and 14-year-old sensation Hausi Igua who both snared three wickets.

In reply PNG Under 19s lost a couple of early wickets thanks to their oldest and youngest players on the ground. First Tiafala Alatasi bowled Michael Pukana for a duck and then Lautala Fuimaono trapped Alfred Amini LBW for just 9.

The Under 19 boys steadied after that thanks to Mea Jimmy who made a solid 29 and Sakaneai Gebai who made 49. From that moment on despite losing several wickets, the young heads of the PNG boys showed maturity beyond their years to keep the runs ticking over until they passed the score via a huge six from Bobby Diho with 2 wickets and 6.5 overs to spare. Diho finished with 40 not out.

For Samoa Daniel Burgers proved he could be a valuable addition for World Cricket League Division 8 next year taking three wickets in a good performance with the ball.

On the result Kaisara says given the senior players that were missing from his side the team was happy with the way they played.

"We were pretty happy with the performance from the boys today we were a bit unlucky and will be keen to come back and performance tomorrow," he said. "Tomorrow will be another good chance for the young boys to step up again."
