Intel India hosted “Intel Cloud Summit 2011” in Mumbai where customers from verticals like banking, telecom, IT/ITeS and the public sector participated. The summit highlighted the importance of cloud and Intel Cloud Builder(s) Program, the Intel Open Data Center Initiative and outlined the company’s cloud 2015 vision.



Kimberly S Stevenson, VP IT, GM IT Global Operations and Services, Intel, said, “Cloud Computing is a key area of innovation for Intel and one of Intel IT’s top objective for the year 2012. Cloud is opening up new windows of opportunities for Indian companies both from global as well as domestic opportunity stand point. The key focus should now be on developing the ecosystem and it should include developing talent for cloud development, connecting start up ISVs with large system integrators, enabling start ups on the cloud market places and finally, influencing government policies to become cloud friendly in the near future, this ecosystem together with Indian capabilities of exporting business models will provide the right mix to leverage opportunities created by cloud.”

The summit focused on how the industry is working towards creating benefits of cloud computing to enterprises across the region. The program showcased Intel Cloud Builder(s)’ reference architecture and had various demonstrations from companies such as Microsoft, Dell and Fujitsu.

Sharing his views on cloud computing, R Ravichandran, Director, Sales, Intel South Asia said, “Accelerated adoption and usage of cloud solutions across large enterprises, SMB’s and government has lead to the development of a robust cloud tail in India and to balance the play many managed services providers, telcos, data centre hosting companies and the local solution providers are actively building up cloud based solution delivery capabilities. Cloud has not only increased the flexibility for end customers but also increased the choice of products and services for customers.”

The summit also focused on Intel’s Cloud 2015 Vision and how Intel is bringing the cloud to reality by developing a cohesive set of open, well-defined cloud computing solutions across IT infrastructures with sessions on topics such as Virtualization and Data Center Utility environment, Security in the Cloud and Intel Cloud Builders Program & Reference Architecture Delivery. These sessions emphasized on Intel’s three-point strategy focused on deep engagements with IT and service providers, delivering products that align to user requirements, and proven solutions via Intel Cloud Builders.
