Irfan Pathan, the Indian pace bowler, has been ruled out of the upcoming Celkon Mobile Cup in the West Indies with a hamstring injury. The BCCI on Monday announced that Bengal seamer Shami Ahmed would fly out to the Caribbean to link up with India's ODI squad.
Irfan, 28, did not play any of India's six matches in the tournament and it has not yet been determined when he picked up the injury. He last played for India at the ICC World Twenty20 in Sri Lanka, before picking up a hamstring injury in the Ranji Trophy that kept him out of the home season. Irfan was named as one of India's pacer for the Champions Trophy following the sixth season of the IPL.
Shami, 23, made his India debut against Pakistan in the ODIs in January. He has played five ODIs, in which he has taken four wickets an average of 43.50. This will be his first overseas tour. India start their tri-series on June 30 in Jamaica. The series runs from June 28 to July 11.
