According to a reliable source in the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), the tentative dates discussed for the series is meant for a short series of three ODIs and two Twenty20 matches.

The short bilateral cricket series between India and Pakistan will be held between December 24 and January 5 if the much-anticipated rubber gets the green signal from the Indian government this week.

According to a reliable source in the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), the tentative dates discussed for the series is meant for a short series of three ODIs and two Twenty20 matches. "The series will be played probably in Sri Lanka in such a manner that both the teams leave for their tours to New Zealand and Australia straight from Colombo," the source said.

He said the Indian Cricket Board (BCCI) had indicated that it wanted to give its players a rest period of around 10 to 12 days before the series against Pakistan. While India has to travel to Australia around January 6 or 7, Pakistan is scheduled to leave for New Zealand for a limited-over series on January 7. "Most probably both teams will go from Colombo directly to their destinations," the source said.

He said Pakistan head coach Waqar Younis had also informed the PCB that if the series against Indian goes ahead ahead then he would like to have a week-long camp in Sri Lanka before the matches. He said there was also a possibility that the series could be reduced to two ODIs and two T20 matches since time is running out fast to complete logistical and organisational details by the PCB.

"The PCB also has to contend with the fact that it is rainy season in Colombo in December and they will have to select venues in consultation with the Sri Lanka Cricket carefully so that bad weather does not affect these matches," the source said.

Pakistan Cricket Board Confirms Series With India From December 24

The Pakistan Cricket Board has confirmed a bilateral series with India following the visit of Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj to Islamabad

After weeks of uncertainty, the Pakistan Cricket Board has confirmed a series with India following a meeting of foreign ministers - Sushma Swaraj and Sartaj Aziz -- in Islamabad on Tuesday. The series, likely to feature three limited overs matches, will be played in Sri Lanka between December 24 and January 5.

Pakistan's cricket-loving Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had cleared the tour last month but BCCI did not have Delhi's approval.

The two countries, bitter rivals on and off the cricket field, signed a Memorandum of Understanding in 2014 that Pakistan would host their next series after India had staged their previous two meetings (2007 and 2012).

Although India and Pakistan have played in International Cricket Council events like the World Cups and Champions Trophy, a bilateral series has been few and far between.

According to the ICC calendar, India and Pakistan were originally schedule to play two Tests, five ODIs and two Twenty20 internationals in December-January 2016. But given India's next tour of Australia starting January 12 in Perth, BCCI and Pakistan Cricket Board agreed to a much shortened series.

In recent months, India and Pakistan had differed over the venue of the series. While Pakistan were adamant that India should play at their adopted 'home', United Arab Emirates, BCCI wanted Pakistan to play in India.

India finally agreed to Sri Lanka as a 'neutral' venue to honour its commitment to ICC and keep its relationship with Pakistan alive and kicking, much like Sushma Swaraj did on the political front.
