India’s mobile subscriber base reaches 903.73 million

The mobile subscriber base in India has reached 903.73 million at the end of January 2012 registering a growth of 1.11%, according to latest figures released by Telecom Authority of India (TRAI). The figure in December 2011 was 893.84 million.

This has taken the total telephone subscribers in India to 936.12 million at the end of January, 2012 from 926.53 million at the end of December 2011 registering a growth rate of 1.04%.

The total number of subscribers of Uninor, stood at 106.38 million.

Idea Cellular added 1.75 million subscribers to take its subscriber count to over 108 million while Bharti Airtel added 1.3 million customers, taking its subscriber base to 176.95 million. Reliance Communications added 949,271 users, increasing its subscriber count to 151.

State-owned Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) added 874,756 subscribers to go up to 97.64 million users while Vodafone added 855,349 customers to take its user base to 148.6 million.

The share of urban mobile subscriber has marginally decreased from 65.59% to 65.41% where as share of Rural Subscribers has marginally increased from 34.41% to 34.59%. The overall mobile tele density in India reaches 74.89.

Mobile subscription in urban areas increased from 586.26 million in December 2011 to 591.10 million at the end of January 2012. The subscription in rural areas increased from 307.59 million to 312.62 million during the same period. This shows higher growth in rural Subscription (1.64%) than Urban Subscription (0.83%). The urban wireless teledensity has increased from 161.01 to 162.06 and rural teledensity has increased from 36.56 to 37.13.
