I have a doubt. If it's just cross border firing and 2-3 soldiers die (I do value their life just writing in context), why the prime minister of Pakistan had to issue a statement to reassure the security to it's people? Isn't cross border firing a regular thing? May be defence minister will issue a statement for these.

Surgical strikes by Indian Army in PoK: 6 to 8 terror launch pads destroyed across LoC by para-dropped commandos

The Indian Army on late last night carried out surgical strikes in Pakistan occupied Kashmir in which six to eight terror launch pads were destroyed across Line of Control. According to news agency ANI, the commandos from Indian Armed Forces who were para-dropped on terror launch pads which started at 12:30 am and ended at 4:30 am. The report suggests that the terror launchpad was located around 500 meters to 2 kilometers across LoC.

Minutes after Lieutenant General Ranbir Singh confirmed in a joint press conference and said that the surgical strikes were conducted in Pakistan’s occupied Kashmir by India Army, Pakistan Army’s media wing, Inter Service Public Relations (ISPR) said that, “the claims made by India were false”. The Director General of Military Operations confirmed that the strike was conducted to avoid terror attack on Indian soils, which is a fresh attempt to push terrorist on offensive. The Indian Army nor did Pakistan had given any official comment on casualties but a large number of “terrorist” died in today’s operation along with their supporters. There were no Indian casualties, confirmed DGM. The ISPR also confirmed that the surgical strike has been carried out in Bhimber, Hotspring, Kel and Lipa sectors, which is on Pakistan’s side of LoC.

According to NDTV sources, massive casualties of terrorists, their guides and handlers took place in today’s operation. According to the DGMO, they terrorists died today were planning to attack within Jammu and Kashmir and in metros across India. The strikes in which helicopters were used and para-commandos were dropped at terror camp (terror launch pads) was conducted after surveillance over seven days.

The Narendra Modi government has called an all-party meeting after the news about surgical strikes at multiple terror launch pads in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir were made public. Soon after the news started surfacing around Narendra Modi spoke to former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and President Pranab Mukherjee and Vice President Hamid Ansari were briefed about the situation. Home Minister Rajnath Singh has started calling each and every chief minister of state and the meeting will start at around 4 pm.

The Army claimed that the launch pad which has been destroyed today was the same from where militants were prepared to attack Uri base in which 19 Indian Armed forces were killed. Meanwhile, Pakistan’s ISPR said in a statement, “Pakistan has made it clear that if there is a surgical strike on Pakistani soil, same will be strongly responded”. Officials from Pakistan Airforce said, “this (by Indian Army) was not a surgical strike, we are alert for any eventuality”.

The DGMO also informed that in last nine months the Security Forces in India has foil almost 20 infiltration attempt. According to former Air Chief, a surgical strike is “a calculated maneuver to ensure maximum damage to a terror site has been caused with a big surprise”. Today’s surgical strikes are the first major military action taken by India Armed forces, 11 days after four terrorists from Pakistan crossed into Uri army camp in Jammu and Kashmir and killed 19 security officials. After Uri attack, Prime Minister Narendra Modi pledged that those behind the deadly strikes will not go unpunished.

Since Uri attack, Narendra Modi government had shown indications that its campaign against Pakistan will be largely based on isolating the country diplomatically. In the line of his statement, Narendra Modi on Tuesday said that he will not travel to Pakistan in November to attend the regional SAARC summit. Following the footsteps of India, three other countries – Afghanistan, Bhutan, and Bangladesh – also joined India to boycott SAARC

DGMO Lt Gen Ranbir Singh briefed the media on Thursday on India carrying surgical strikes across the Line of Control , effectively neutralizing infiltration attempts by terrorists

Here’s the full text of Singh’s televised speech, as streamed by DD News:

• It has been a matter of serious concern that there has been continuing and increasing infiltration by terrorists across the LoC in Jammu and Kashmir. This is reflected in the terrorist attacks at Punch and Uri on 11 and 18 September, respectively.

• Almost 20 infiltration attempts have been foiled by the Indian army successfully during this year.

• During these terrorist attacks and infiltration attempts, we have recovered items, including the global positioning systems and stores which have had Pakistani markings.

• Further, captured terrorists hailing from Pakistan or Pakistan-occupied Kashmir have confessed to their training and arming in Pakistan or the territory under the control of Pakistan. The matter has been taken up at the highest diplomatic levels and the military levels at regular times.

• India has actually also offered consular access to the apprehended terrorists to Pakistan to verify their confessions. Furthermore, we had proposed that fingerprints and DNA samples of terrorists who had been killed in the Uri and Poonch encounters can also be made available to Pakistan for their investigations.

• Despite our persistent urging that Pakistan respect its commitment made in January 2004 not to allow its soil or territory under its control to be used for terrorism against India, there has been no let up in infiltration or terrorist actions inside our territory.

• If the damage was limited, it has been primarily due to the efforts of the soldiers of the Indian army who are deployed in a multi-tier counter-infiltration grid and most of the infiltration bids have been foiled at those locations.

• The Indian armed forces have been extremely vigilant in the face of continuing threat.

• Now based on very specific and credible information which we received on Wednesday, that some terrorist teams had positioned themselves at launch pads along the LoC with an aim to carry out infiltration and terrorist strikes in Jammu and Kashmir and various other metros in our country, the Indian army conducted surgical strikes last night at these launch pads.

• The operations were basically focused to ensure that these terrorists do not succeed in their design of infiltration and carry out destruction and endangering the lives of the citizens of our country.

• During these counter-terrorist operations, significant casualties have been caused to the terrorists and those who are trying to support them.

• The operations aimed at neutralizing the terrorists have since ceased. We do not have any plans for further continuation of the operations. However, the Indian armed forces are fully prepared for any contingency that may arise.

• I have just spoken to the Pakistani director general of military operations and explained our concerns and also shared with him the operations that we had conducted last night.

• It is India’s intention to maintain peace and tranquillity in the region, but we can certainly not allow the terrorists to operate across the LoC with impunity and attack the citizens of our country.

• In line with Pakistan’s commitment made in January 2004 not to allow its soil or territory under its control for any terrorists activities against India, we expect the Pakistan army to cooperate with us with a view to erase this menace of terrorism from our region.
