Could be a blessing in disguise for sa as dale steyn was returning after long without a test match practice

Shikhar Dhawan ruled out of 1st Test KL Rahul to open with Murli Vijay

ShikharDhawan seems to have recovered from the reported ankle injury - he batted in the nets - but it seems M Vijay and KL Rahul seem to be locked in as the openers for the first Test. They batted next to each other in the nets, they walked together to and from the nets and spent a lot of time talking to each other. - Cricinfo

This is actually great news considering Dhawan's inconsistency. But Rahul although consistent should bat more responsibly and not gift his wicket by attacking so early before setting in like he does in India. Having said that now there is no left handed batsmen in India playing XI with Ashwin the 1st choice spinner ahead of Jadeja.

Now both the bowling as well as the batting line up is one dimentional. No variations. South Africa captain's job has become simple. This is where players like Dhawan, Gambhir, Yuvraj, Raina, Parthiv Patel or even Irfan or Jadeja playing in various formats were more valuable than what they seem to have offered. Hope this one dimentional factor both in batting and bowling doesnt affect India.

Having said that I strongly believe India will surely compete hard and be a successful team even in abroad conditions.
